Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama will be making a campaign stop in the Emerald City tomorrow (Tuesday), complete with a $100-a-ticket fundraiser and musical guest. No, it's not Obama Girl. It's Brad and The Dusty 45's.Howie P.S.: There is also this grown-up boring story this morning in the P-I: "Barack Obama to visit Seattle on Tuesday." But, it does contain a quote by super Obama volunteer guru, Mark Milodragovich.
BradP-I music critic Gene Stout describes the Dusty 45s as a "big, local swing rock-a-billy kind of band" and a popular local club act that doesn't fit neatly into one genre. Whatever they are, they put butts in seats in Seattle, much like Brad, a band that features guitarist Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam fame.
If for only that reason, the bands seem a decent accompaniment to a political campaign looking to make nice in a musical city. (Here's our interview with Brad's Shawn Smith.)
But not everyone is happy with the lineup, including editors at The Stranger, a Seattle alternative weekly. They're calling it "lame," "un-energetic" and perhaps a tad too old for Obama's youth-centered campaign. Music fans, what do you think?
