DNC Touts Fundraising Success

"Howard Dean's Republican-bashing apparently is going over well with Democrats.

The Democratic National Committee on Monday announced it received $28.5 million in contributions for the first half of the year -- a record amount for Democrats in an off-year election cycle, but far less than Republicans have taken in.

In mid-June, the Republican National Committee announced that it had received $52.9 million in contributions during the first five months of 2005.

The DNC noted that Dean, since he became the party's chairman in mid-February, "has brought the passion of the grassroots with him" by raising more than $1 million a week from approximately 600,000 donations.
It's a "strong, solid beginning," Dean said. "This proves that Americans want to get Democrats elected in every state and territory, in every city, in every precinct, at every level of government. People are eager to get our country back on track and they know they can trust Democrats to do just that."

Other tidbits from the DNC release:

-- The DNC already has committed over $2 million to 16 state parties.
-- All 50 states and territories will receive an investment by the end of the year.
-- Online fundraising is growing at a record rate:
-- The DNC has approximately $9 million cash on hand."-from the article on Crosswalk.com. Update: The AP now has a milder version of this story.
