Joe Trippi, a veteran Democratic political consultant who served as campaign manager for Howard Dean's 2004 presidential bid, has joined Brian Moran's gubernatorial campaign.Howie P.S.: Not even Barack Obama can smooth over all the conflicts in the Democratic party.
As media director, Trippi will oversee radio, TV and online advertising as well as serve as a general strategic adviser, according to Moran's campaign.
Moran is battling former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe and Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, in a June primary for the nomination. Attorney General Bob McDonnell is the all-but-official Republican nominee for governor.
McAuliffe, who was succeeded by Dean as DNC chair, brings fundraising muscle and national name recognition to the race. By bringing Trippi on staff, Moran is adding someone known for tapping into the Internet's potential to build grass roots and raise money.
Trippi is also a longtime adviser to Moran's brother, Rep. James P. Moran Jr., D-8th.
"Joe is the architect of the 21st century campaign and knows how to help insurgent candidates win elections," said campaign chair Mame Reiley.
I started posting on HowieinSeattle in 11/04, following progressive American politics in the spirit of Howard Dean's effort to "Take Our Country Back." I decided to follow my heart and posted on seattleforbarackobama from 2/07 to 11/08.--"Howie Martin is the Abe Linkin' of progressive Seattle."--Michael Hood.
