Progressives get angry when it appears their leaders are running against their own people, and there's no reason they shouldn't be. My only disagreement with that anger is its logical extension - that because Obama criticizes, he's not really one of us. He is, as best I can tell. But he seems to have a congenital belief that everybody is wrong at least some of the time, and that everybody across the political spectrum could stand to work a little harder on communicating with one another in the process of problem-solving.
My one lasting impression from our interview is that he is mulishly committed to that belief. It's not going to change, and he's going to keep calling it like he sees it. That leaves progressives with only a couple of options: figure out a way to work with him, or drag Gore into the race.
I started posting on HowieinSeattle in 11/04, following progressive American politics in the spirit of Howard Dean's effort to "Take Our Country Back." I decided to follow my heart and posted on seattleforbarackobama from 2/07 to 11/08.--"Howie Martin is the Abe Linkin' of progressive Seattle."--Michael Hood.
