"Elizabeth Edwards in Iowa"

DES MOINES, IA -- About 100 people listened to Elizabeth Edwards speak at the A-Dong restaurant here this morning. She called her husband an 'inevitable populist," and answered questions on Iraq, Darfur and health care.

Edwards told listeners she would love to support Biden's three-state plan, but believes it cannot work because oil revenue won't be shared equally. She said that Kucinich had the only other true universal health-care plan and called for more international unity in pressuring the Sudanese government.

The group she spoke to -- Women for a Stronger America -- had first formed as Women for Kerry after the caucuses in 2004. Fern Andrew of Windsor Heights said she had caucused for Edwards in 2004 and planned to do it again.

A woman who identified herself as a grief therapist and first-time Edwards volunteer asked if she could hug Edwards before she asked her question about the possibility of a draft.

Most in attendance were older women, but men and a few children also came. Elizabeth Edwards' next stop is a community meeting in Waterloo.
