Starting Sunday, Kenyon Hall in West Seattle will host a series of free events to honor (Pat) Wright for her work on the Gulf Coast, and give the choir and the students a proper send-off.Barack Obama
On Sunday and Monday nights, I will conduct an onstage interview with Wright about everything from her childhood in Carthage, Texas, to her being named one of ABC News' three "Persons of the Year" in 2007.
On Tuesday night, the choir will practice and perform with Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, with whom it recorded "Fired Up, Ready to Go," a song written by Seattle musicians Joe and Jon Bergevin, in support of Obama.
And on Wednesday night, Wright will moderate a speakerphone interview with the Bryants and Moore to discuss what awaits the choir and students in Mississippi.
(Make reservations by calling 206-937-3613, or e-mail kenyonhall@earthlink.net).
"We want people to come to choir rehearsal to sing with us, mix and mingle with us," Wright said. "My goal is to make us the best that we can be."
I started posting on HowieinSeattle in 11/04, following progressive American politics in the spirit of Howard Dean's effort to "Take Our Country Back." I decided to follow my heart and posted on seattleforbarackobama from 2/07 to 11/08.--"Howie Martin is the Abe Linkin' of progressive Seattle."--Michael Hood.
