"Chris Dodd for President" (with video)

Jesus' General:

My inner Frenchman has been an Edwards supporter and a Gore awaiter. Now, he's tired of waiting, and he never really got over the Amanda/Shakes debacle or Edwards' seeming eagerness to adopt the neocon's Iran rhetoric. He wants to support a candidate who shares his values, a candidate who isn't a afraid to stand up to the proto-fascists who would trade a false sense of security for our most basic constitutional rights, a candidate who isn't talking about an Iraq withdraw plan that will take decades to complete, a candidate who believes that universal health coverage doesn't mean shifting the burden from business to the individual, a candidate for whom we can all be proud to support, a true liberal, not one of the DLC's self-styled "progressives."

Over the next few months, I want to discuss Dodd's positions on a number of issues with you. We'll begin with two that are very important to me: restoring our constitutional rights and ending the war in Iraq.

Constitutional Issues

His Restoring the Constitution Act will restore habeas corpus and end the use of torture and secret prisons. And unlike many of his caucusmates, he's actively fighting the FISA domestic spying act. He is the only candidate actively working to restore the basic rights stolen from us by the fear-mongering proto-fascists who seized control of our country in 2000. Obama and Clinton seem to have bought into the idea at only "pussies" care about the Bill of Rights. Dodd cares more about righting the wrongs than worrying about Frank Luntz's latest focus group.

Dodd on FISA:

The Military Commissions Act. Warrantless wiretapping. Shredding of Habeas Corpus. Torture. Extraordinary Rendition. Secret Prisons.

No more.

I have decided to place a "hold" on the latest FISA bill that would have included amnesty for telecommunications companies that enabled the President's assault on the Constitution by illegally providing personal information on their customers without judicial authorization.

I said that I would do everything I could to stop this bill from passing, and I have.

It's about delivering results -- and as I've said before, the FIRST thing I will do after being sworn into office is restore the Constitution. But we shouldn't have to wait until then to prevent the further erosion of our country's most treasured document. That's why I am stopping this bill today.

Iraq

Unlike his opponents who seem to believe that withdrawal can be a decades long process, Dodd is clear. Too many yound men and women have giveup their lives, bodies, and sanity for that spoiled, pampered, fratboy in the Whitehouse can continue pretending to be "The Decider." The Hell with Commander Guy's ego. Dodd wants to bring the troops home now:

Based on the amendment he offered in the Senate with Senators Reid and Feingold, Chris Dodd’s plan would:

1. Begin safely redeploying U.S. combat troops out of Iraq within 120 days,
2. Provide every penny necessary for a safe redeployment of our troops
3. Complete redeployment by April 30, 2008

By ending our military’s participation in Iraq’s civil war, we can begin focusing our attention on fighting al Qaeda in Afghanistan and elsewhere – boldly engaging friends and foes alike in a robust diplomacy, dedicating more resources and manpower to homeland security and leading the world on energy independence.
