"The first known medicinal marijuana advertisement to be aired on television." (with video)

StarcasmVideo (00:37):
This is the first known medicinal marijuana advertisement to be aired on television. Commercial provided by permission from CannaCare. This spot first ran on FOX 40 in Sacramento, California in August of 2010.
HuffPo:
Found via Time comes this commercial said to be the first ever for Medical Marijuana. Broadcast this week on Fox affiliate KTXL in Sacramento, the ad is for an area dispensary called CannaCare. Time notes:

Cannabis, now legal for medical use by prescription in 14 states, is used as an alternative to pain killers and because advertisement of prescription drugs is entirely legal, it could be tough for naysayers to push for the regulation of the broadcasts.

Medical Marijuana has become an increasingly contentious issue in California, even after its use was legalized by Proposition 215 in 1996. Recent months have seen a severe crackdown on dispensaries in Los Angeles stemming from new regulations limiting where shops can operate. Proposition 19, a November ballot initiative which would essentially legalize marijuana in the state, has a slim lead in polling but has high profile opposition from politicians including Jerry Brown and Dianne Feinstein.
