Why should this man endure the torments of the campaign trail when he can influence policy, move crowds, top out at No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list and mount the stage twice at the Academy Awards?
Why should Gore get into this maelstrom when he can reach people over the pundits' heads and have scalpers selling tickets outside the door?
