I’m heading down momentarily to the county courthouse, where King County Council members are reportedly close to breaking the deadlock on appointing a replacement for Dow Constantine, who left the council to take his new position as King County Executive last year.

Multiple sources say Larry Phillips, a Democrat, now plans to switch his vote and side with Republicans, who want to appoint former Seattle City Council member Jan Drago as a “placeholder” until an election can be held in November. Drago lives in Pioneer Square; Constantine lives in West Seattle.

Phillips has not returned a call for comment.
