National Dean Organization Steps Up for Gregoire (UPDATED)

"Do you know what's been happening in Washington State? In their closest election ever, an initial recount done by machines turned up thousands of misplaced ballots that had not been counted -- the difference in ballots counted so far is just 42 votes out of 2.8 million cast in the race for governor. We need to keep counting."-email from Tom McMahon, Executive Director, Democracy for America, that asks Dean supporters,"Will you help them pay the fee to protect every voter?" Update: Our own Susan Hu posts on Kos about how Air America hosts are joining with Howard Dean to support the recount in Washington State. I heard Ed Schultz on Air America talking to the Gregoire campaign today, as well. Update: Kos also has "DNC uses recount, Dean supports it!" Free sample: "For people who do not understand the difference between what Howard Dean would do as DNC Chair and the current establishment one needs to look no further than the recount for Washington State Governor's race. The state of Washington has only 14 hours to pays fees in excess of $1 million to ask for a hand recount in the Governor's election." Update: Only in the P-I: "Former presidential candidate John Kerry contributed at least $200,000 of unused campaign contributions yesterday to help fellow Democrat Christine Gregoire keep the governor's race alive and pay for a statewide hand recount."-from "Kerry backs recount effort in governor's race." The Stranger's Sandeep Kaushik still wants to downplay a recount. When his latest column comes online, it will be here. In the meantime, Kirstin Brost from the Washington State Democrats was on Air America today updating Ed Schultz on the progress of fundraising: They've got 500 thousand, need another 200 thousand before 5 pm today. They raised 100 K online yesterday. They are still waiting to hear from the DNC. MoveOn is also trying to help.
