''Saving the World in Seattle''

Democracy for Washington headlines the Blog for America: "Seattle was the final stop for Chris and I on a trip that had started in California a week earlier. We were fortunate to attend an event on Saturday night hosted by Janis Traven and Mark Linsey. Nearly fifty people attended from a variety of political backgrounds (including two of my cousins). It was a great opportunity to speak with folks from inside and outside DFA about progressive politics, both globally and in the state of Washington. The next day we went to a fabulous organizing conference. Along the way I had a chance to catch up with Congressman Jim McDermott, who was very supportive of Howard during his presidential campaign and remains supportive of many of our activities. Our conversation was upbeat; but we also covered some of the issues around the disturbing attempts by the right-wing to litigate their way to power. Jim is fighting one of these lawsuits right now and I encourage you to go to his campaign website to find out more about this issue.
Most importantly, a heartfelt thanks to Carol Cates, Jackie and Ray Minchew, The Laborers Union, and all the attendees for a great time at the Washington State Organizing Conference in Everett.
I found out why everyone raved about Washington's support for Howard during his campaign. Many activists in the campaign have gone on to become delegates, precinct captains and candidates for office during the last cycle. It was an impressive group at the Labor Temple last Sunday, who came to establish priorities for DFW going forward. The group included DFW members who also belong to Washington's Democratic Party, giving all of us further opportunity to discuss this relationship both locally and statewide."-from the post today.
